Hi, we're the Gnomestones writing and design team. We're releasing our first full product, The Potato Game, in early 2025. We hope you enjoy our website!

F.A.Q.

What is Gnomestones?

Gnomestones is many things, a game, another game, a system of voting, an artform, and a game production group that made all the previous things.

What do I call your world then?

Depends on where you are. The world of Gnomestones is fine.

Where did the city of Octavia come from?

Octavia is a fantasy city created by Italo Calvino in his novella Invisible Cities. If you google the proper nouns the previous sentence (if google still works), you will see many artists' renditions of the fabled city of Octavia.

So halflings in Gnomestones are actually half-gnomes? (people do not ask this)

Well, sometimes. Sometimes halflings are half-goblins, or half-elves, or half something else. In truth most of the residents of the human centers of activity are halfling in some way or another. But yes, in Gnomestones the classic halfling community would be half-gnome that developed individualized property law and English class sensibilities.

Did you think of the hexflower idea?

No, https://goblinshenchman.wordpress.com/hex-power-flower/ created the hexflowers. I just made some cutout ones with certain weather patterns, and worked on a fighting version.

How can I support Gnomestones?

Subscribe to the blog, follow our accounts, stay tuned for The Potato Game Kickstarter, which is not too far away.

If you are an artist or TTRPG creator interested in collaborating with Gnomestones, send a message to gnomestonesgame@gmail.com, or send us a message on our bluesky.

Who are you in real life?

Mostly this website in run by me, Sam/Scraw, a Danish-Lithuanian American, and some of my friends and family and also people I met online. I learned ADND from a young age, am a lifelong gamer, and have backgrounds in sustainability, wilderness guiding, education, justice, and folklore.

What else can you find here?

Hexmaps, folk gaming, TTRPG testing, Dungeons and Dragons history, how to play D&D, fantasy maps, gnome theory, wilderness and nature discussion, podcasts and videos, promotions, products, modules, hardcover game books, OSR (old school renaissance/revival), OSNSR, and social, indie gaming.
